The Ties That Bind
Su Friedrich
In The Ties That Bind, Su Friedrich analyses her mother’s memories of her youth in Germany between the 1920s and 1940s. »I have combined images of my mother from her current life in Chicago with stories of her past, partly because she is still seriously tormented by these early experiences, but also because I can’t separate who she is now from who she became as a result of war and National Socialism. But underlying this, it appears to be a conversation between the pictures I took and the sound she produced.« (Su Friedrich)
First Tokyo Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. Friedrichs Filme sind Teil der Sammlung unter anderem des Museum of Modern Art, des Art Institute Chicago, des Royal Film Archive Belgien, des Centre Pompidou in Paris und des nationalen Filmregisters der Library of Congress.
