By definition, a »border« is real when it is crossed. The external borders of the European Union are controlled by a complex system consisting of visualization equipment, automated installations and communication devices. Monitoring Sea Borders shows the visual and audio material recorded in the water borders and control rooms of Algeciras in Spain. Officials discuss off-screen the movement of refugees. A sober, exceptionally forceful commentary on the current wave of migration.

Seit 1990 ist die Medienkünstlerin und Filmemacherin in den Bereichen Film, Video, Fotografie, Installation und Performance tätig. Während der letzten Jahre realisierte sie verschiedene Projekte, die sich mit dem Thema des (apparativen) Monitorings auseinandersetzen. Schoenberg lehrt an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln.
