We show “Stop-Zemlia” at the Cologne Cinema Nights on July 3, 2022

The Cologne Cinema Nights celebrate their 14th edition with a packed program of 40 films, without restrictions. Our contribution to the finale: Stop-Zemlia, the feature-length debut of Ukrainian director Kateryna Gornostai. It revolves around 16-year-old Masha and her friends Yana and Senia, who share school life and exam worries at Kyiv High School. When Masha falls in love with her classmate Sasha, she has to jump over her shadow and ask him if he returns these feelings.
The curator of our desired! section, Dr. Natascha Frankenberg, will welcome you with an introduction to the film.

Stop-Zemlia was awarded among the films for young audiences in the Berlinale Summer Special. »The film convincingly covers a variety of important topics which appeal to us as young people. Platonic love, queerness, solidarity and psychological stress reinforce the effect of the film as an authentic coming-of-age story. […] The message is conveyed that it is part of life to face certain fears in order to be able to enjoy the most exciting years of youth.«
