Ana grows up with her two siblings on the island of São Miguel. Binary gender concepts determine everyday working life on the island. Religion is an important part of life and also gives structure to the way the residents co-exist. But even in this tradition-soaked environment, change is possible. For Ana, the friendship with Luis, someone who doesn’t conform to the binary structures, holds the promise of far more openness and the possibility of living differently. Chloé comes to São Miguel for a few weeks as well. Together in a queer community, they move across the islands, through the days and nights. The place with its seemingly pre-ordained rules is also their place, and they re-shape it. Cláudia Varejão portrays island life as a space oscillating between the utopian and the restrictive. The queer adolescent community operate both within and outside the traditional settings, not as people who are different, but as an integral part of it. They take their place in the procession wearing the most beautiful styles. The differences are not tolerated entirely without conflict among the islanders and within the families. The film image, however, creates new spaces and avoids stark juxtapositioning. The image of the island is already a queer setting, a place for more possibilities and changes. This is where differences can be seen and exist. Yet in the end, the question remains for the main characters: Where do we go from here?

This film contains physical violence.
