The daily routine of 87-year-old Vida is turned on its head when her one neighbour foretells the imminent arrival of an unusual guest. Vida immediately starts with the preparations. In the same small mountain village in the Balkans, young Slavoljub falls in love with Vladana, who is the same age as him. Three days full of waiting in hopeful expectation, while the pace of time passing by is dictated by nature.

»With this film, I tried to understand life and death, by treating time as a connection between the two. Vreme takes place in a remote village whose inhabitants still carry the spirit of yesteryear in them. But even they cannot escape the clutches of the ageing process. Fewer and fewer people live there. The village is dying, they say, but I would actually disagree. Forest roads are narrowing and you can hardly get through the bluegrass. Trees grow through the roofs of isolated houses. The wolves are coming down. You can meet deer in front of the church and bears behind the school. People are making way for other species to be born and spread themselves.
My character has lost her relatives a long time ago. She’s already prepared her own gravestone and what she’ll wear for the next world. She is ready for the last guest who she’ll take in. But, nothing’s happened yet. Alone during nights when she cannot sleep, she looks back and still has enough time for fear and restlessness. A new day brings unforeseen joy.
Initially I saw my film as a celebration of life. Later though it became more of a meditation on death, a tool used to eliminate the old and pave the way for the new. Wherever we are all going, death is the last destination for all of us.«
