The One Who Walks
Eli Cortiñas
›The One Who Walks‹ is a key female character in Carlo Lizzani’s contribution to the Neorealist anthology film L’amore in città from 1953. Cortiñas uses this character, an ageing prostitute, as the nucleus of an associative montage of self-filmed material, found footage and fragile sculptural constructions. With the help of this construct, the film-maker questions her own role as a self-responsible individual, as a working-class child, a woman, a daughter and as an artist.

Eli Cortiñas
Eli Cortiñas, born 1976 in Palmas de Gran Canaria, is a media artist. Before moving to Germany in 1995, she studied at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark. Then she studied at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts. In 2015, she was a visiting professor at the Mainz School of Art. She is currently preparing various exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA, the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin and the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf.
