Effie Wu
As the camera follows the artist around the apartment, she transfixes the viewer with her hypnotic smile. The irritation between subject and object soon drifts into the realms of hysteria and thus challenges the conventions of a certain gaze regime – not least because of the allusions to the cliché of the ever-subservient Asian woman.
Effie Wu
Effie Wu wurde 1973 in Taipei, Taiwan, geboren. Sie studierte von 1993–1999 an der Nationalen Universität der Künste in Taipei. Anschließend wohnte und arbeitete sie bis 2004 in Florenz, Mailand und München. Von 2004 bis 2007 studierte sie Experimentelle Mediengestaltung an der Universität der Künste in Berlin und war 2006 Assistentin im Atelier von Pipilotti Rist. Seit 2008 ist sie Meisterschülerin bei Prof. Maria Vedder an der Universität der Künste in Berlin.
