Effie Wu
As the camera follows the artist around the apartment, she transfixes the viewer with her hypnotic smile. The irritation between subject and object soon drifts into the realms of hysteria and thus challenges the conventions of a certain gaze regime – not least because of the allusions to the cliché of the ever-subservient Asian woman.
Effie Wu
Born 1973 in Taipei, Taiwan, Effie Wu studied at the National University of the Arts in Taipei from 1993 to 1999. She subsequently, lived and worked in Florence, Milan and Munich until 2004. From 2004 to 2007, she studied experimental media design at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 2006, she was employed as an assistant in Pipilotti Rist’s studio. Since 2008, she has been a member of Prof. Maria Vedder’s master class at the Berlin University of the Arts.
