Semra Ertan was born in Turkey in 1956 and moved to her parents to the federal republic of Germany in 1972. In 1982, she burnt herself to death in Hamburg in protest against xenophobia and racism in Germany.
Born in Munich in 1986, Cana Bilir-Meier lives and works in München, Hamburg and Vienna. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Friedl Kubelka School in Vienna and at Sabancı University in Istanbul. Shown nationally and internationally, her work focuses on issues relating to social, cultural, emotional and structural participation and equal rights for migrants
