Racetrack Superstar Ghost documents a horse racecourse shortly before its demolition –at the very moment it gets a new phase of life due to the construction of an arena for a U2 concert. Myriam Yates uses her video installation to let the parallel temporalities of the place meet one another: the past era of the racetrack and the futuristic snapshot of a mega-event.

Myriam Yates’s photography and video-based work tends towards a documentary approach, exploring the tenuous relationship between public and private space as well as the obsolescence of urban sites dedicated to leisure and culture. In 2005, she completed a master’s degree in visual & media arts at the University of Québec, Montreal. Interested in the many ways images are used in the public arena, she has also studied advertising and graphic design. Her work has been shown at the Montreal Contemporary Art Museum and elsewhere. Ms Yates also works as a programming coordinator at StudioXX, a media art centre in Montreal.
