In 1866, John Forbes Watson compiled a book featuring various patterns used in South Asian textile handicrafts to show them to his British compatriots. In keeping with the pattern of colonial rule, they produced cheap factory imitations which were in return exported to India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. In the film, experts in the history of design deliver explanations while the textures on screen are interlaced, tied together, and interwoven.
