Palestine, 1936: More and more villages are rising up against the British colonial power, which is enforcing its authority through violence. At the same time, European Jews who have fled from the Nazis are settling in the region. The impartial Yusuf commutes between his rural home village and Jerusalem, where tensions are mounting. Following a fateful event, the young man sides with the resistance. He joins forces with allies such as the dockworker Khalid, who, faced with the escalating situation, sees no other way out than to take up arms. As personal fates and political upheavals become inextricably intertwined, the situation comes to a dramatic head – a decisive moment that marks the origin of the conflict across the entire region.

Annemarie Jacir, geboren 1975 in Bethlehem, aufgewachsen in Saudi- Arabien, absolvierte ihre Ausbildung in den USA. Die Mitgründerin von Philistine Films, die Filme aus der arabischen Welt und dem Iran produziert, gilt als Vertreterin der »Arab New Wave«. Ihr Film When I Saw You war 2013 die palästinensische Einreichung für den Auslands-Oscar. Ihre Gedichte und Kurzgeschichten wurden in Literaturzeitschriften publiziert und ihre Filme auf zahlreichen Festivals gezeigt und ausgezeichnet.
