Köksüz
Nobody’s Home
Deniz Akçay Katıksız
»I tried to show with this scenario that big dramas can find their place in the small, ordinary situations lived behind each and every door. The story of people who couldn’t decide on their own roles but clumsily try to carry the roles that are decided for them.«
–Deniz Akçay Katıksız
After the death of her husband, Nurcan is left with her grown-up daughter, Feride, and two teenage children: İlker and Özge. While the mother takes refuge in exaggerated household upkeep, she also transfers to Feride the responsibilities and duties that the father had once carried out. Feride, who has a job anyway, feels increasingly overfaced by the burden. İlker, the only son and still devoted to his father, becomes even more estranged from his family when Feride is entrusted with the leadership role. For her part, Özge – who as a teenager needs her family more than ever – is totally ignored by both her mother and her sister. She tries to draw attention to herself but it is only her brother who comes to see her in the school play. When Feride can no longer bear the weight of responsibility and sees Gülağa’s proposal of marriage as the only way out, the family structure breaks down completely.
Köksüz tells of four people who, after a serious loss, fail to adapt to the new family circumstances and come together again.
