Mariella, the older sister of 20-year-old Naomi, has been murdered by her German husband. Naomi reluctantly accompanies her mother on her journey from Peru to Germany to attend the trial. During the court case, Naomi realises just how little she knows about her sister’s life; Mariella had told her nothing about her problems. Naomi reflects upon the circumstances in which the brutal act was possible. She slowly begins to understand the reality of the »marriage market« for South American women and the possessive instincts of a German husband who believes he has given his Peruvian wife a better life with her residence permit.
