The camera glides through a deserted amusement park in Casablanca where youngsters are killing time. Maroufi portrays the teenagers in tableaux vivants. The way they present themselves on the internet is more violent and aggressive than the impression left by Maroufi‘s images. Violence works in a similar way to language – its interpretation depends on the context.

Randa Maroufi was born in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1987 and studied fine art in Tetouan (Morocco), and in Angers and Le Fresnoy (France). She collects images with as much passion as she does mistrust, always questioning their authenticity. She prefers to place her ambiguous narratives at the service of reality, and her work experiments with public space and gender-specific issues. Maroufi currently lives and works in Paris.
