Jackie
Antoinette Beumer
»I do have the ambition to make films with a bigger budget, but whether this is in Holland or abroad doesn’t really matter to me. I like making films for as many people as possible. […] And I know I like to make films with women in the lead. I know that I also like to make a mix between comedy and drama, that I like films with a smile and a tear: All of that is in Jackie.«

A surprise phone call overturns Sofie’s and Daan’s world. It’s from their mother who’s lying in a hospital with broken bones – somewhere in the USA. Thing is: the twin sisters have never met Jackie before. In Daan’s eyes, she’s the »ova supplier« with which she fulfilled their gay father’s wish for children. Be that as it may, the two sisters travel to the USA and are disappointed by reality. Jackie is something of a cool eccentric who doesn’t seem to have any interest in her daughters. Nevertheless, they embark on a trip across the desert of New Mexico to get Jackie to the rehabilitation centre. On the road in Jackie’s camper van, this becomes an adventurous and life-changing journey filled with confrontations, challenges and surprises …
