Hedi doesn’t seem to be what you’d call the average grandma. She’s quite happy breakfasting with her granddaughter with nothing on apart from her worn-out hiking boots, which are slowly but surely falling apart. Hedi is very attached to her boots – to her, they’re much more than just comfortable footwear. If the daily routine starts getting a bit much, she taps the tips of her red shoes together and disappears into another reality, where she’s energetically
climbing mountains, is young, free and in love. In Her Boots received a BAFTA Award nomination in 2020.
Kathrin Steinbacher
Kathrin Steinbacher is an Austrian animation director and illustrator. She lives and works in London, where she gained a bachelor’s degree in Illustration and Animation at Kingston University and her master’s in Animation from the Royal College of Art. In 2020 she was awarded the Salzburg one-year scholarship for film. Her films Freedom (2017) and The Woman Who Turned Into A Castle (2018) have been screened at film festivals worldwide and collected several awards.
