Familie Sonnemann
Dieter Zeppenfeld, Ulrike Bartels
»I didn‘t tell them in the Kindergarten, they really don‘t know that I live somewhere else. They think I live with my grandmother. But that‘s just not true.«
Alwin, five
The Sonnemann family live in the Hunsrück region in their own selfmade utopia – they have neither electricity nor gas, running water or a car. They get up in the morning by candlelight, and take their baths in a tub. They walk across the fields to go to the pit latrine. The children walk through the woods to catch the school bus, and in the afternoons they don‘t watch television but play in their tree-house or paint with their mother. Friedmunt Sonnemann cultivates rare old crop plants on his fields and sells their seeds on the eco-market. The income of the Sonnemanns is very modest, as are their material needs. They are content and protest quietly. The planning for the new B 50 bypass interrupts this idyll. The building project will cut right through the scenic landscape and also threatens the Sonnemanns‘ existence, who along with other involved parties, take matters to court.
The film observes the family‘s daily life and questions the alternative life concept.
