FAB fabulous
Catrine Val
FAB fabulous is a visual journey of discovery into the rituals of daily masquerades. The camera shows a group of young people putting on make-up and dressing up. It conveys their coolness and physical strength, but also their vulnerability and apathy. The story begins in a confined, sheltered London room, illuminated alternately by neon light, moonlight and flashlight. At the end, all gender codes are concealed and called into question.
Catrine Val
Born in Cologne, Catrine Val first worked as a graphic designer in Vienna. After completing her studies at the Kunsthochschule Kassel art school, she took the postgraduate course at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Val exhibits her video work and photographs worldwide. IFFF Dortmund+Köln screened her film Commodity Fetishism in 2013, as well as her Strike a Pose in 2014 and An Ode to Vaginismus in 2017. Val also designed the poster motif for IFFF 2014.
