Divertimento
Seventeen-year-old twin sisters Zahia and Fettouma Ziouani, who come from a suburb of Paris, have ambitions to become professional musicians. But everywhere they go, they come up against resistance. Aspiring conductor Zahia, in particular, struggles with prejudices and discrimination as a migrant from the Maghreb. So the two sisters decide to set up their own orchestra, the Divertimento, which welcomes musicians from all cultures.
Even today, only six percent of all conductors worldwide are women; in France, the figure is as low as only four percent.
