Dame 2 (Helen Mirren)
Dame 2 recreates an interview on Parkinson with Helen Mirren from 1975, transcribed and performed as a song by Elkin. The work explores the notion of improvisation and power-balance within the recorded-as-live TV format, and re-cites/recites this particular interview, which is so often referenced as an example of historic sexism.
Kathryn Elkin (born in Belfast, 1983) is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art (2005) and Goldsmiths College (2012). She is currently based in Berwick Upon Tweed. Elkin’s performance and video works concern role-playing and improvising. She is the recipient of the 2017 Warwick Stafford Fellowship at Northumbria University and teaches at Liverpool John Moore’s University.
