Commodity Fetishism moves seamlessly between the realms of fashion and performance and criticism and comedy. Throughout this video, Catrine Val repeatedly transforms herself by means of hastily cobbled-together yet awesome disguises. Construction is the key element of this work.

In Köln geboren, arbeitete Catrine Val zuerst in Wien als Werbegrafikerin. Nach Abschluss des Studiums an der Kunsthochschule Kassel besuchte sie den postgraduierten Studiengang der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln. Val zeigt ihre Videoarbeiten und Fotografien international. 2013 lief beim IFFF Dortmund+Köln ihr Film Commodity Fetishism, 2014 ihr Film Strike a Pose und 2017 An Ode to Vaginismus. Das Plakatmotiv des IFFF 2014 stammt von Val.
