Bananaland
Loukia Alavanou
In Bananaland, Loukia Alavanou combines pictures from the banana farming village of Los Ángeles in southern Ecuador with a mix of found footage fragments: American documentaries from the 1950s on the origin of bananas, pictures of historical dioramas from the colonial era and blaring kids’ television are brought together to form a gloomy collage about the literally toxic long-term effects of colonial structures.
Loukia Alavanou
Loukia Alavanou wurde 1979 in Athen geboren und lebt und arbeitet in Belgien. 2005 schloss sie ihren MA in Fotografie / bildender Kunst am Royal College of Art in London ab; seit über 10 Jahren arbeitet sie mit Film und Installation. In ihren Arbeiten bezieht sie sich auch auf das Kino, insbesondere die frühen Filme von Walt Disney, auf britische Dokumentarfilme der Nachkriegszeit, Bildungssendungen aus den USA, aber auch auf das filmische Werk Ingmar Bergmans.
