In her impressive documentary A Thousand Girls Like Me director Sahra Mani follows the courageous pursuit of a young woman fighting for a better life. In 2009 a law was introduced in Afghanistan to end violence against women. It was hardly ever applied though, among other things, because the victims kept their silence out of shame and fear. The young Afghan Khatera was the first woman seeking justice through official investigations after being abused by her father for many years. After several unwanted pregnancies she made a public statement, full of despair. In a TV-show she told her story which was met with disbelief or active concealment by the people around her.

Sahra Mani ist Dokumentarfilmerin und Produzentin mit dem Fokus auf Menschenrechte und Gendergerechtigkeit. Sie wuchs als afghanische Geflüchtete mit ihrer Familie in Iran auf, studierte Dokumentarfilm an der Universität der Künste in London und erhielt ihren Master-Abschluss in Film. Sie ist Gründerin des Afghanistan Doc House und der Anahat Vision and Films Produktionsfirma. Sahra Manis Filme liefen auf vielen internationalen Filmfestivals und wurden von vielen TV- Sendern ausgestrahlt. A Thousand Girls like Me lief auf zahlreichen Filmfestivals, u. a. Hot Docs, Sheffield und IDFA und gewann zahlreiche Preise.
