A colourful cinematic journey with a positive message: Where there’s a will, there’s a wave! In some cultures, surfers are ostracised, condemned or ridiculed. Why? Because these surfers are women. Aneesha wants to become a professional surfer but is disowned by her family in India as a result. Saba will soon ride her last wave in Gaza, because she is about to be married; then her husband will decide what she can and can’t do. Suthu is the only black woman in the water and in love with another woman – a risky combination in South Africa. In England, Gwyn was always the first in the water, and she’s still surfing at the grand old age of 72.

After the film, there will be an interview with the director, Dörthe Eickelberg.

Women with and without migration backgrounds, women who have experienced displacement, their families, and everyone who is interested in different cultures are invited to attend our Film Series: World Views.

Film Series: World Views is a cinema series of Internationales Frauenfilmfestival Dortmund | Köln e. V. and partners of the project Company Mentoring for Dignified Women (PerMenti): Dortmunder Forum Frau und Wirtschaft e. V., Equal Opportunities Office of the City of Dortmund
