The fact that Palestinians have a rich culture, with literature, painting, music, and much more, is hardly known to the German public. Café Palestine Colonia has therefore set itself the task of bringing Palestine’s cultural and artistic background to the fore. On the one hand, this concerns the situation in Palestine itself, and on the other, Palestinian art and culture in Germany – especially in the Cologne area. Of course, the political situation should not be ignored.

At its next event, Café Palestine Colonia, in cooperation with IFFF Dortmund+Köln, will show the film »When I saw you«. The feature film tells the story of Palestinian refugees who, in 1967, are waiting in a camp in Jordan for their “right to return,” while young Tarek sets out alone to find his father in his homeland. On the way, he joins a group of Fedayeen (freedom fighters), and his desperately searching mother also joins their circle, unfolding a touching drama about belonging, loss, resistance, and hope. Against the backdrop of the Six-Day War, the historical drama combines political reality with poetic images and a haunting musical atmosphere.
