»Tótem« at World Views Dortmund

A girl sits pensively at a table. In front of her is a cake whose candles are being lit by someone behind her.

We are back with Kino Weltsichten in Dortmund! In 2026, we are realigning the series with fresh enthusiasm. What remains is the quality of the films and their feminist, socio-political message. What is changing? The sponsorship and the location. After many years of successful cooperation, the Gleichstellungsbüro Dortmund and the dffw are stepping down as permanent partners; they will participate in individual film events in the future. The IFFF Dortmund+Köln has gained the Türkische Filmtage Dortmund as a new partner. In addition, we are moving Kino Weltsichten to our familiar and beloved festival cinema, the Schauburg Dortmund. We are very much looking forward to the new, proven collaboration!

We kick off 2026 with the celebrated feature film Tótem by Lila Avilés. This heartwarming film introduces its audience to the difficult topics of loss and grief with a great deal of lightness and humor. Tótem was Mexico’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature Film in 2024.

Following the screening, Marlena Pöhls (Director of the Dortmund Westrich Children’s Hospice) will be our guest for a discussion.

Understanding, openness and coming into contact with people of different nationalities and origins are our motives for the series World Views. Once a month, we show entertaining as well as thoughtful films from different countries to make the prism through which we see the world even more colourful.

People with and without an international history, women with refugee experience, their families and anyone interested in excellent, often rarely shown international films directed by women are warmly invited to the programme.

Free admission.

Recommended for age 16 or older.

The film will be shown in the original version (Spanish) with German subtitles.
