In May, we will be screening the powerful documentary Maydegol by Sarvnaz Alambeigi at World Views Cinema. The film tells the moving story of a young Afghan woman who, despite displacement, poverty, and discrimination, clings to her dream of becoming a professional athlete. It showcases her unwavering determination to fight for self-determination and dignity through the sport of boxing. At the same time, the film paints a powerful portrait of a generation of Afghan women who are rebelling against social constraints and injustices.

The film premiered at Berlinale 2024.

Understanding, openness, and connecting with people of different nationalities and backgrounds are the driving forces behind our »Kino Weltsichten« film series. Once a month, we screen entertaining and thought-provoking films from various countries to make the prism through which we view the world even more colorful.

People with and without international backgrounds, women with refugee experiences, their families, and anyone interested in excellent, often rarely shown international films directed by women are warmly invited to attend the series.

Admission is free.

Recommended for ages 14 and up.

The film will be shown in its original language (Farsi, Dari) with subtitles.
