Nicola Awang
Refahmation is a performance work on the deconstruction of colonialised bodies. Nicola Awang’s video explores the interrelations between self-love, identity in the age of the diaspora, decolonising oneself and, most importantly, black hair and the projected black female form.

Nicola Awang ist eine multidisziplinäre Künstlerin aus Trinidad und Tobago. In ihrer Arbeit setzt sie sich vorwiegend mit Bewegung und Körper auseinander. Im Kurzfilm verarbeitet sie ihren persönlichen Weg durch die repressiven Strukturen ihrer Umgebung. Derzeit lebt sie in einem Reservat des Volkes der Küsten-Salish, wo sie ihre Recherchen fortsetzt und an intersektionalen und kollaborativen Werken arbeitet.
