IFFF x Bustan Film Week: We are part in the 2nd Bustan Film Week in Cairo
In September, the festival will be guests at the Goethe-Institut in Cairo. From 16 to 20 September, as part of Bustan Film Week, we will be presenting the film programme All the Places Closing In in collaboration with HerStory. Arab, German and international films, complemented by a panel discussion, a programme of short films, talks with female directors and a masterclass led by director Yasemin Şamdereli, will be presented to a wide audience in the heart of the Egyptian capital.
The programme explores the dynamics between ‘inside’ and ‘outside’; it examines how women navigate between ‘domestic’ and ‘public space’ and break free from the places assigned to them. Throughout the programme, women navigate cities, homes, archives, studios, borders, memories and the stories that shape them. They confront patriarchal oppression, social control, war, discrimination and the pressure to present socially accepted versions of themselves. The films emphasise complexity, agency, contradictions, anger, imagination and the search for self-determined forms of belonging. Among others, we are screening our 2024 winning film Elbow by Aslı Özarslan, Do you love me by the Lebanese artist Lana Daher, and the Cameroonian feature film Mambar Pirette.
