Two well-heeled couples are hoping for an evening of thrills in a low dive currently the talk of the local press. And they are not disappointed: they get to see the »Apache« stereotype in front of their very eyes – with a wicked woman in a key role and the famously coarse Apache dance that originated in the variety theatre. But then the satire takes a turn more costly than expected …

Polaire (Emilie-Marie Bouchard-Zouzé, 1881–1939) war über drei Jahrzehnte eine der beliebtesten und vielseitigsten Vedetten der Pariser Unterhaltungsbühnen. Legendär wurde sie mit Soloauftritten in den 1890er Jahren im Eldorado, ab 1902 im Boulevardtheater und als Revuestar ab 1910. Die gebürtige Algerierin kultivierte ihren exotischen und androgynen Körper mit der Wespentaille, ihren arabischen Akzent und war eine exzellente Komikerin und Sängerin. Ab 1909 trat sie auch häufig in Filmen auf. Ihre Filmographie ist schwer zu fassen, weil sie oft mit Pauline Polaire verwechselt wird.
