Signs of a City
Johanna Reich
The video Signs of a City explores the multiple role and impact of white space. Empty canvases roam urban space and hi-jack shadows. One shadow on a white wall is lifted out of its environment, highlighted and exposed for a brief moment as it becomes a work of art, a painting or, if the screen moves, a film. Once the white space disappears behind the object, the shadow is reassimilated into its surroundings.
Johanna Reich
Johanna Reich (geb. 1977) studierte Freie Kunst an der Kunstakademie Münster und an der HfBK Hamburg. Sie absolvierte den Postgraduierten-Studiengang Medienkunst an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln sowie Austausch- und Artist-in-Residence-Programme in den USA, Israel, Spanien, Luxemburg und Rumänien. Sie wurde u. a. mit dem japanischen Excellence Prize for Media Arts, dem Förderpreis des Landes NRW für Medienkunst und dem Förderpreis des Nam June Paik Award ausgezeichnet. Ihre Arbeiten sind u. a. in der Sammlung Goetz München, im Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography und der Jerry Speyer Collection New York.
