»…The historic pier [was] torn in two and all the nearby beaches destroyed. People lost access to the sea. We were absolutely devastated. We sensed [the highway] would affect the lives of the people living along the coast by creating an irreversible socio-cultural transformation. By documenting the events during the road construction and its effects on locals, we aim to raise consciousness so that people living along the western shores of the Black Sea may stand against any similar pending destruction before it is too late.«

On the black sands of the Black Sea shore, local residents enjoy the final days of summer − just as they have for generations. Fishermen near Trabzon, Turkey, are counting their last catch and wondering how they will survive. Construction will soon start on the new highway which, in future, will form a wall between the people and the sea. It will not only destroy hundreds of kilometres of beach but also strain the social fabric of that region.
