Dortmund singer TriXstar has secured her place in the male-dominated reggae and dancehall scene. With her raspy voice, the Iranian-born German lends credibility to her lyrics, while her grooves remain exceptionally danceable.

TriXstar unites cultures that are not traditionally thought about together. In recent years, western media has primarily associated Iran with nuclear weapons, terrorism and human rights violations − even though a glance behind the scenes of international politics reveals a country with a long cultural heritage and a society in transition. In response to this stigmatisation by the media, TriXstar repeatedly interjects into her lyrics phrases such as »dancehall terrorist« and »terrorist of love«. The German perspective of Jamaica is also frequently distorted and dominated by images of beaches, palm trees and laid-back Rastas; social problems and the colonial past are not seen. TriXstar combines all these cultural perspectives in her creative work. When she sings »Rise up and shine«, she addresses all those people who have been socially and personally abused, humiliated and oppressed. She also urges women to break free of genderspecific roles and to exploit their true potential.

TriXstar has performed all over Europe and at some of the world’s most popular reggae festivals. In 2013 and 2014, she ranked among the top five »national newcomers« in the Riddim Magazine polls.
