Young Immigrants Curate a Festival Programme

Recommended for aged 12 and over

What is film language, who speaks it, and how can it help us overcome prejudices?

This special festival category shows insightful, lively and thought-provoking contributions – with little or no dialogue. Our young curators put together a selection of short films during a workshop before the festival. The programme relies on the genuine power of cinema and is aimed specifically at international classes and special needs schools. The aim of the programme is to get young refugees actively involved in a cultural film project and to offer them the space to present their own perspective of the short films. The participants can also find out about international film and festival culture and experiment with short film techniques, aesthetics and content. We invite everyone to discover new aspects of the cinema and to join in discussions in different languages afterwards.

Participants in 2020 proved they had a good feel for exceptional films, selecting an entry that went on to win the ECFA Short Film Award: Armed Lullaby by Yana Ugrekhelidze.

Admission free!

The programme is part of the project “Digital participation 7.0 – Young refugees participate in active media work”.

In cooperation with LAG Lokale Medienarbeit NRW e. V., funded by the Ministry for Children, Family Affairs, Refugees and Integration of the State of NRW.
