Mary Bauermeister is considered the mother of the Fluxus movement. In an attic in Cologne’s Lintgasse, she created art history with personalities such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage and Nam June Paik at the beginning of the 1960s. Today, at the age of 85, she is far from thinking of stopping. The extraordinary artist works from dawn to dusk in her studio near Cologne: a magical place and the setting for the first feature-length documentary film about Mary Bauermeister and her radically lived biography. The film tells the story of an exceptional artist, a visionary, a mother. Mary Bauermeister has lived her life self-determined and yet full of doubts. It is not difficult for her to speak of successes and failures in the same breath.
Over the course of a year, the artist provides insights into her life and work. Observations at her home, an exclusive exhibition in New York and – back in Germany – a destructive fire in her studio, a trip to the Atlantic and presentations of her works in Cologne and Berlin are the ingredients for an intimate cinematic portrait that shows the ups and downs in her moving life.
